The hats are part of an art project of the noroomgallery he invented &#8211; and the name is to be taken literally: It is a gallery without its own space. The work of an artist in the Kunsthalle had just been loaned out for another exhibition. Jan Holtmann reports that it had already become a routine for him to enter the Kunsthalle through a tried-and-true back entrance to grab a hat from the shelf, which he then carried out in Hamburg. Jan Holtmann: &#8220;I&#8217;ve already been approached by people on the street who said, &#8220;I know that hat from the Kunsthalle!&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1652\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1652\" style=\"width: 700px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1652 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/hamburgarts.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/P1080553-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"394\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1652\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hat in the Kunsthalle &#8230;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1653\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1653\" style=\"width: 700px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1653 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/hamburgarts.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Hut_bunt-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1653\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">&#8230; and on Jan Holtmann&#8217;s head<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The artists willingly went along with it. &#8220;Jonathan Meese has already created ten hats, and he donated one hat,&#8221; says Holtmann. Originally there were to be 33 hats, but now there are well over 40. The artists include names such as Anik Lazar, Jan K\u00f6chermann, Prof. Michael Lingner, Boran Burchhardt and Verena Issel. Holtmann was able to reassure some artists whose hats have electrical finesse: &#8220;It also works without electricity.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1644\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1644\" style=\"width: 700px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1644 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/hamburgarts.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/P1080547-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"394\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1644\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">&#8220;Hats work without electricity&#8221;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3>&#8220;Finally, a good hat!&#8221;<\/h3>\n<p>&#8220;The hat store is something like a belly store on the head,&#8221; says Jan Holtmann. For some, his appearance is surprising. &#8220;When Jan appears with such a hat, it can initially irritate and unsettle,&#8221; finds Brigitte K\u00f6lle, the curator. Then the artist was all the more pleased when a man on D\u00fcsseldorf&#8217;s K\u00f6 called out to him, &#8220;Finally, a good hat!&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>The Hamburg Hat Store of Jan Holtmann<\/h3>\n<p>The most frequently asked question is: &#8220;Where is the Hamburg Hat Store?&#8221;. The answer: &#8220;You are standing in the middle of the Hamburg Hat Shop&#8221;. Whereby these hats are also for sale.
