They meet up on Mondays in the Motorco Music Hall in Durham, North Carolina. They want to sing together, even though most of them can’t sing particularly well. And that’s what it’s all about: Get out of the shower and forget about the half-hearted, secret attempts belt out a pop song. With choral director Seamus Kenney they want to learn a song that will even be published on YouTube by the time they’re done.
The mood is cheerful and easy going. A set of excellent musicians takes care of the sound: violin, cello, guitar, bass, everything they need. The evening has a freeing, almost soothing quality to it, with so many strangers coming together to happily learn and perform popular songs.
